Terms of Service

Declutter Pawn Shop ("DPS", "we", "us") runs a digital marketplace for pre-owned goods across Lagos, Nigeria. Buyers find things they want at fair prices. Sellers turn idle items into cash. We handle the escrow, the review, and the messy middle.

By using DPS — whether you're browsing, listing, negotiating, or paying — you agree to these Terms. If anything here doesn't sit right with you, the fix is simple: don't use the platform. If you keep using it, we take that as your acceptance.

These Terms apply to the website, the Telegram channel, Dayo (our bot), Dina (our Instagram automation for Partners), and any related services we operate.

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into contracts in Nigeria to use DPS. By registering, listing, or buying, you confirm both.

You're responsible for keeping your account details accurate. Real name, working phone number, a bank account in your own name. If we can't reach you or pay you, that's a problem we can't solve for you.

We may decline, suspend, or terminate accounts at any time — with or without notice — if we believe these Terms have been broken, or if continued access poses a risk to other users.

DPS is an intermediary. We connect buyers and sellers. We review listings, hold funds in escrow, and provide the tools that make the transaction safe. We are not the buyer, and we are not the seller.

We don't own the items listed. We don't physically take custody of them. We don't arrange logistics beyond connecting the two parties. Physical transfer happens directly between buyer and seller, at pickup.

What we do guarantee: money in escrow is handled according to these Terms, listings go through human review before they're published, and payouts are processed to verified bank details.

Every listing is reviewed by our team before it goes live. Approval isn't guaranteed, and we may reject any listing for any reason — usually because it's unclear, mispriced, or missing useful detail.

Every listing must include

• Real photos of the actual item. Not stock images, not manufacturer renders, not photos of a similar item.
• An honest description. Condition, what's included, and any flaws. Scratches, dents, missing accessories — say so.
• A realistic price. Priced for a pre-owned Lagos market, not aspirational pricing.
• A pickup location. Mainland or Island. Buyers need to know where they're going.

The following can't be listed on DPS. Some are illegal, some are dangerous, some just don't belong on a marketplace. We may remove any listing that violates this list without warning.

• Illegal goods, stolen property, or anything requiring a license you don't hold
• Weapons, ammunition, explosives, or replicas
• Drugs, prescription medication, or controlled substances
• Counterfeit or "replica" branded goods
• Live animals, livestock, or protected wildlife products
• Human parts, tissues, or reproductive material
• Recalled, hazardous, or unsafe consumer products
• Financial instruments, gift cards with unverified balances, or account credentials
• Sexual content, intimate imagery, or services

• Describe accurately.Condition, inclusions, flaws, and quirks. The buyer sees it once, at pickup. Give them an honest picture before that.
• Be reachable.Answer messages and pickup coordination quickly. Silence wastes a buyer's time and clogs the platform.
• Deliver as described.The item the buyer inspects must match what they agreed to buy.
• Keep bank details up to date.We pay out to the account on file. Wrong details, wrong recipient.
• Don't double-sell.If you list an item on DPS, don't sell it elsewhere while a buyer's in escrow. That's grounds for suspension.

• Inspect before confirming.Check the item in person. Test it. Make sure it matches the listing.
• Arrive for pickup.Coordinate with the seller and show up when you agree to. No-shows and repeated delays are noted.
• Only share your PIN after inspection.The PIN is your escrow release switch. Once it's entered, the sale is final.
• Raise concerns before confirming.If the item doesn't match, don't share the PIN. Contact us immediately.
• Use your own details.Paying with someone else's email or account breaks the escrow chain and can void your protection.

Don't want to pay the asking price? Make an offer. The seller decides whether to accept, counter, or decline.

How it works

1. You submit an offer with your price and a short note. A ₦300 negotiation fee is charged via Paystack at this point.
2. The seller has 24 hours to respond. They can accept your offer, counter with a different price, or decline.
3. If they accept, you get a payment link at your offer price. Pay within the window and the item is yours.
4. If they counter, you get another 24 hours to respond to the counter — accept, decline, or walk away.
5. If they decline or the window expires, your offer closes. You can try again if the listing is still live.

You can withdraw your offer

Any time before the seller responds, you can pull your offer. The seller is notified. The ₦300 fee is not refunded.

Accepted offers are binding once you complete payment. Walk away after paying without collecting, and you'll be flagged for repeat no-shows.

All payments run through Paystack, a PCI-compliant processor. We never touch raw card details.

The escrow flow

1. Buyer pays the full agreed price via Paystack.
2. Funds land in DPS escrow — not with the seller.
3. Buyer and seller get each other's contact details. Pickup is arranged directly.
4. Buyer inspects the item in person. If it doesn't match the listing, the buyer walks away and gets a full refund.
5. On acceptance, buyer shares their 4-digit PIN. Escrow releases to the seller minus our commission.

Escrow funds are held securely until the transaction completes or a dispute is resolved. Funds are not invested, lent, or used for any purpose other than settlement.

Pickup is arranged directly between buyer and seller. We recommend daytime hours, in a public place, and completing the inspection carefully.

At pickup, the buyer inspects the item. If everything matches, the buyer shares a 4-digit PIN with the seller. That PIN is the escrow release signal.

• Never share your PIN before you have the item in hand.Not to the seller, not to anyone claiming to be from DPS. Our staff will never ask for your PIN.
• Once the PIN is entered and confirmed, the transaction is final.No take-backs, no post-pickup refunds.
• Lost or compromised PIN?Contact us immediately. We can regenerate one and reset your lockout.

Listing is free. Browsing is free. Buying at the listed price is free. There are exactly two ways DPS makes money:

A ₦300 negotiation fee applies to each offer submitted — separate from commission, charged at the point of offer, and non-refundable.

Buyers pay the agreed price. No hidden fees, no surprises at checkout. The commission comes entirely out of the seller's payout.

We reserve the right to adjust commission rates in the future. Existing listings would be grandfathered at the rate in effect at the time they were approved.

Once the buyer's PIN is verified, escrow releases and payout is queued to the seller's bank account on file.

• Timing:Payouts are processed within 24 hours of PIN verification, typically same-day during banking hours.
• Destination:The account details on the seller's profile at the time of the sale. Make sure they're correct before you list.
• Amount:Agreed sale price minus commission. The exact figure is shown before you confirm the sale.
• Failed payouts:If a payout fails due to incorrect bank details, we contact you. Fixing takes a business day, but the money stays in escrow until then.

We don't hold payouts for longer than necessary. If a payout is delayed beyond the window above and it's not due to a dispute or bank issue on your side, contact us and we'll sort it.

Disputes are rare, but they happen. The system is designed so most of them are resolved at pickup, before any money moves.

Before PIN confirmation

• Item doesn't match the listing?Don't share the PIN. Walk away. You get a full refund.
• Item isn't working?Same thing. Inspect, test, then decide. Before PIN is your window.
• Seller is unresponsive?Contact us. We can extend your payment hold while we look into it.

After PIN confirmation

Once the PIN is entered, the transaction is complete and escrow releases. We can't reverse a confirmed sale. If something unexpected surfaces, contact us anyway — we'll see what we can do, but reversal isn't promised.

DPS Partners are businesses that list inventory at scale. They get a reduced commission rate (95% payout), access to Dina — our Instagram automation that imports listings from partner Instagram pages — and a dedicated partner dashboard.

• Verification required.Partners must be verified before activating. We check business details, Instagram handles, and bank information.
• Listings import automatically.Once Dina is active, items posted on the partner's Instagram are reviewed and imported to DPS.
• Same escrow protection.Partner sales run through the exact same escrow flow, PIN confirmation, and payout process.
• Suspension.Partners who violate these Terms can be suspended, and their active listings taken down immediately.

Full partner terms are in the Partner Program Agreement, provided at registration.

We can suspend or terminate any account at any time if we believe the account:

• Violates these Terms or the Partner Program Agreement
• Engages in fraud, deception, or misrepresentation
• Repeatedly fails to complete agreed transactions
• Attempts to circumvent escrow or commission
• Poses a legal, financial, or reputational risk to DPS or its users

Suspended accounts may be reinstated after review, at our discretion. Terminated accounts forfeit access to any open listings, but any payouts owed for completed sales are still paid out.

DPS acts as an intermediary. We hold funds in escrow, review listings, and process payouts. Beyond that, we're not involved in the physical transaction between buyer and seller.

We are not liable for:

• Physical damage or loss occurring during pickup, transport, or storage
• Inaccurate descriptions provided by sellers
• Disputes arising after a buyer has confirmed pickup with their PIN
• Issues with items discovered after the pickup window has closed
• Delays caused by bank processing, network failures, or events outside our control

Our maximum liability for any claim arising from a transaction is capped at the total commission DPS earned on that transaction.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced on the Telegram channel and via email to registered users.

Continuing to use DPS after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't, your recourse is to stop using the platform.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute arising under or in connection with these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos State.
